Abstract
In the generative AI era, it is increasingly difficult to distinguish polished but generic student writing from work that shows genuine personal insight and expression. Traditional rubrics may unintentionally reward overuse of AI tools by prioritizing fluency. This article presents a lightweight rubric that helps instructors recognize and reward authorship, synthesis and individual voice when writing is imperfect. The tool is easy to implement and encourages thoughtful experimentation.
