Abstract
Traditionally, legal education has centered on face-to-face instruction, but this approach no longer meets the needs of today's busy, tech-savvy students. The featured activity in the poster aligns with broader scholarship on enhancing legal education through technology, especially post-COVID-19, where the demand for flexible and engaging learning environments has intensified.
This project addressed a significant challenge in legal education: how to engage students, particularly those who are reluctant to participate in role-play exercises due to logistical or personal reasons. The aim of the project was to design and implement a learning activity, an online interview, that bridges the learning gap for internal and external first year Law students. Central to this project is the successful collaboration between an academic and a third-space professional.
Using Big Interview, a platform that facilitates scripted video vignettes for mock client interviews, the activity offers students flexibility to engage outside the traditional classroom. This creates a more inclusive, practical, and immersive learning experience. Additionally, the activity incorporates collaborative feedback mechanisms, allowing students to share and review their performances with peers and instructors, improving both engagement and learning outcomes. This approach exemplifies how technology can be seamlessly integrated into legal education, offering a model for wider application across different legal subjects. The shift to digital learning, as demonstrated in this project, provides a forward-thinking perspective on the future of teaching law and highlights the pedagogical benefits and challenges of implementing technology-driven, experiential learning activities.
