Abstract

Country and Regional University Centres are community-embedded organisations that support students from regional, remote, and rural communities to access a university education in Australia. Each centre is a product of its home community, with local people employed to coordinate the operations of each centre, and supported financially by a combination of government grants, corporate sponsorships, and fee-for-service arrangements. Students accessing higher education through university centres in regional Australia report higher completion rates compared to students who access institutions independently (Stone et al., 2022). However little is known about the link between the university centres and employability. While there is a recognition that such socially innovative practices can be a driver of social change (McKelvey & Zaring, 2018), this has not been demonstrated in relation to the Australian university centre experience.
