Abstract
Science education has turned its attention to the study of emotions for more than 15 years. One sub-set of this work has addressed the emotions of preservice and inservice science teacher education and professional development. This systematic review outlines the landscape of this body of work. Extending from the earliest time available in research databases to 2025, we discuss major research topics, theories, methodologies, and empirical outcomes of the reviewed studies. The outcomes of the review highlight a diverse set of focal topics for empirical research that science educators have addressed in relation to science teacher emotions. Major theories and methodologies that dominate current research are identified. Drawing on the affordances and limitations of existing knowledge, directions for future research are discussed to advance new directions and support existing trends.
