Abstract

The XIV International Symposium on Genetics in Aquaculture (ISGA XIV), held in Puerto Varas, Chile, 27th Nov-2nd Dec 2022, brought together researchers, industry, service providers and other interested stakeholders to exchange knowledge on the latest scientific and technological advances advocated to aquaculture genetics. With the aquaculture industry globally facing unprecedented challenges due to environmental changes, diseases, market competition and the demand for sustainable practices, the symposium underscored the critical role genetics and genomics is playing in enhancing aquaculture efficiency and sustainability. This editorial article addresses key topics and findings presented at ISGA XIV, focusing on optimization and implementation of genomic selection, disease resistance, and the integration of innovative biotechnological approaches.
