Abstract
This report details an updated baseline assessment of seagrass condition associated with Gladstone Port Corporation (GPC) Northern Land Expansion Project Southern Reclamation Area (NLEP SRA) of the Western Basin Expansion (Figure 2). The NLEP SRA seagrass monitoring program examines an “impact” seagrass meadow that intersects the NLEP SRA (Meadow 8) as well as two similar nearby seagrass reference meadows (Meadows 5 and 6) to assess any potential impacts of the NLEP SRA on seagrass. These meadows have been monitored since 2002 and annually since 2004 as part of GPC’s long term seagrass monitoring program. The October 2023 survey follows these annual surveys and preliminary baseline surveys in January 2023 and have occurred prior to the project start date and as such no NLEP SRA activities had occurred at the sites at the time of the survey.
