Abstract

Melinda Greenfield investigated fungi inside the different chambers of the ant-plant Myrmecodia beccarii. She found fungi in waste chambers differed to fungi in other chambers, and ants transport fungi, suggesting a tripartite mutualism in this ant-plant. This research has contributed to our understanding of ant-plant mutualisms and will help inform management of this vulnerable species.
