Abstract
Land for Wildlife is a voluntary conservation program available across South East Queensland region for over 24 years supported by 14 Local Governments delivered within a regional context, with a 10 year planning cycle. This research relates to the LfWSEQ Ten Year Plan 2020-2030 focusing ecological, social and economic objective analysis of the surveyed membership. A 29% response rate totalling 1542 valid responses was achieved. We trial novel survey question design using time series perceptions to gauge memerbship changes over time, and produce property and membership typology to focus future strategic planning and communications for the program.
A summary of the project recommendations highlights matters of program content, program efficiencies and future research supporting data driven management decision making through:
• Expansion of content to incorporate online on-demand support for LfWSEQ members, particularly those working requiring flexible out-of-office hours information, residing in more remote locations, and in councils with lower resourcing of the program or with diverse topics needing specialist workshop coverage.
• Increased networking opportunities (physical and online) arranged by council and/or LfWSEQ program to facilitate peer-to-peer learning within the community network.
• Development of formal planning structures such as program logics and theory of change be incorporated into the LfWSEQ 10 year program planning cycle.
• A consolidated database be created for LfWSEQ for ease of program oversight and management.
• Future research that is more frequent and resourced to support qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, workshops), focusing on specific topics for deeper knowledge to be developed (such as on different aspects of the LfWSEQ program, membership personas, and leveraging the social license arising from the program with the membership and wider community). This approach is timely, now that several periods of general survey quantitative data has established a baseline in the major objective areas
