Abstract

As the Commonwealth government of Australia turns to announce new and welcome funding for creative Australia, with a funded roll-out of the new program "a place for every story and a story for every place," the place of regional Australia has been left out, and so has the place of the arts and humanities more broadly. Why this is bears to be unpacked more critically than it has been in the media or in existing research. This article lays out some of the issues with structural inequality in the higher education sector in Australia, and makes an impassioned argument for better resourced regional higher education, and more attention to the arts and humanities in the regions, in particular.
