Abstract

Daykin Harohau investigated the social dimensions of tilapia aquaculture, as a livelihood activity in a rural Solomon Islands context. He found socio-economic factors influenced adoption of tilapia aquaculture among rural farmers; and the activity contributed negligibly to food security and livelihoods of farmers. Hence, while tilapia aquaculture may be contributing to improved food security and livelihood in other geographical contexts, it is not making similar contribution in Solomon Islands.
