Abstract
Australian disability statistics
- 4.3 million Australians estimated to have disability - 18.3% of the population (2015) (same rate in QLD)2.2 million Australians aged 15-64, or 15% of working age population were disabled in 2009 (23% of those severe)
- 10% of the national workforce are disabled – over 1.1 million Australians
- 1.5 million Australians had a physical disability in 2009 – 50% of them worked
- unemployment rate in physically disabled is 50% higher than no disability: 7.5% vs. 5.1%
- an estimated 261,300 Queenslanders of all ages have a severe disability –5.1% of the population (2015)
- indigenous Australians were twice as likely as non-Indigenous Australians to have severe disability
- most common disability type among Indigenous people with severe disability is physical disability -70% (2015)
