Abstract
This presentation compares and contrasts the merits of writing a traditional higher degree by research thesis and a thesis-by paper (or publication). Guidelines on scientific writing, tips on thesis presentation and what the examiners are looking for are provided, as well as managing the student-supervisor relationship and surviving the PhD oral exam.
