Research Statement

Research Background The art object as installation is a major area of practice for visual artists. Anne Lord created the structure for 'Transitions' from a wooden frame (from earlier recycled art) and collected dry garden leaves from a Euodia tree. Thomas Jefferson contributed to the work with moving transitions from his practice. It was created for a multi-disciplinary festival 'See Here Now' in order to bring attention to the way art can high-light issues about environment.
Research Contribution The work follows many years of the researcher's contribution to creative art and writing about 'art and ephemera'. This work highlights the need to not just be aware of environmental issues, but to make art that does not tax the environment. Jefferson a BNMA student, SoCA was invited to contribute to this piece.
Research Significance Visual artists' efforts to create cross-disciplinary output are significant for the way the process brings together disparate fields and issues. This combined work for the See Hear Now festival is significant in that it provided opportunities for students to work with lecturing staff, in order to build on their practice and develop concepts about their ongoing research pathways.
