[Extract] The renewed focus on Northern Australia as an economic development zone recognises its unique proximity to Asia in the Asia-Pacific century and its position within the fastest growing global zone: The Tropics. Northern Australia is recognised as vital to Australia's future economic development over the next 30 years. With sustained policy and political commitment, Northern Australia has the capacity to be the leading provider of health professional training, public health research and innovative health service models for the region internationally.
