Abstract
[Extract] Komarr is not only a regular compendium but an exceptionally good balance of Lois Bujold's diverse strengths as an sf writer. It would be so easy to use that patronizing line, "This is a very good novel that just happens to be science fiction." Except that this is a novel that could only be science fiction: fiction based on science, fictional science, science becoming fiction-but Komarr pushes almost every side of the traditional sf envelope; which is where Bujold's diversity comes in.
