Abstract

The digital image, Bleached Coral in Plane Sight, depicts a sky composed of bleached coral. Tourists frequently fly into the tropics with the expectation of visiting the colourful Great Barrier Reef. The strategy of creating an imaginary sky composed of bleached coral to greet visitors as they fly into the region aims to generate awareness of the degradation of the Great Barrier Reef. The work of art seeks to create awareness of coral bleaching suggesting the sky is composed of bleached coral. It therefore presents an unambiguous or plain view of reef degradation due to bleaching and makes this sight available from a plane.
