Abstract
What it means to be an artist in this post millennial epoch carries an entirely new set of requirements than has previously been the case. Certainly Leonardo Da Vinci had to market himself and protect his brand. Warhol was the brand. Banksy proved to the Hipsters that branding could be ironic. But contemporary arts graduates are practitioners. Plural. Graduating as multi-instrumentalists, what they lack in specificity… they have gained in dexterity. It is also undefinable. This is a double-edged sword. What the emerging artist also craves – indeed, what their future success demands - is visibility.
