Research Contribution | Over twenty years the artist Anne Lord has been producing drawings with both explicit imagery and implicit themes. These have been interpreted in various media. This image 'Dancing with the Dog: Dangerous Liaisons' can be interpreted as a brush with depressing situations. At the same time the dancer and the dog appear to be engaged in having a wild dance. Appearances are deceiving and this little engraving suggests deep and dark feelings beneath the joviality. |
Research Significance | It is significant to allow the darker sides of our activities to emerge in the work of creative artists. In this work the artist's conscious decision is to make both happiness and grief be part of the dance of life. The art work responds to the impressions made on the artist by major international artists from Munch to Sandro Chia and Australian Juan daVila. |
