Abstract
Organising professional placements for teacher education students is a complex task, made more difficult by the sheer volume of students most teacher education institutions enrol. This stimulus paper provides an overview of an online placement system trialed by James Cook University, Townsville Campus in 2003 and 2004. The cold fusion application was designed to allow student teachers to select a school for their compulsory second year placement through the University’s student-online system. The account reviews how the complexities of the placement process are poorly understood by most involved with teacher education and how in a regional setting, sustaining technical support for such a system creates barriers to further expansion problematic.
