Abstract

Kali Middleby examines how leaf traits vary within species of tropical rainforest trees in the Australian Wet Tropics, and how this variation impacts leaf temperatures and the ability of plants to avoid heat stress. She demonstrates that trait variation can enhance leaf cooling in warmer climates, but this effect is species and context-dependent.
