Abstract
The Psychological Contract (PC) plays a critical role in recruiting and retaining employees. An emerging area of research examines the impact of context on human resource management practices (HRMPs) and employment relationships; however, few studies have specifically considered the influence of context and HRMPs on the PC. Hence, a more contextualised understanding of the role of HRMPs in recruiting and retaining workers in particularly challenging environments is a valuable contribution to the PC literature. This study examined the role of HRMPs in developing the PC with a particular focus on pre-entry expectations, contract facilitation and communication in a regional context. The findings contribute to the PC literature and identify learning opportunities for HR practitioners as contract makers and relationship brokers.
