Abstract
Cyberpornography is an umbrella term for digital material that explicitly depicts sexual activity and genitalia for the purpose of sexual arousal of users. Cyberpornography is produced and distributed by professional and amateur performers with the informed consent of all participants. Sexually explicit or nude photos and videos produced and distributed without consent are considered digital sexual violence. In the digital age, cyberpornography (also known as online pornography, digital pornography, sexually explicit internet material) has become a ubiquitous phenomenon, accessible anywhere, anytime, by almost anyone. This chapter summarizes the current state of psychological research on cyberpornography, with a focus on (1) production and producers; (2) subgenres and content rubrics; (3) users and uses; and (4) positive and negative effects. Theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of cyberpornography and interventions to prevent harm from cyberpornography are also discussed.
