Abstract

The influence of technology in healthcare organisations is reshaping clinical practices, with nurses and midwives increasingly using technology in the clinical practice setting to access data, manage records and provide high quality, safe and cost-effective care. Therefore, it is imperative that nursing and midwifery graduates have the knowledge, skills, and resources to utilise technology for a successful transition from student to registered nurse or midwife. In order to educate student nurses in the use of this technology an academic electronic health record (AEHR) is required.

This presentation will present an Academic Electronic Health Record (AEHR) that is integrated with the Learning Management System (LMS). By integrating with the LMS, the AEHR facilitates a transformative student experience in work-integrated learning, fostering course progression and enhancing employability particularly in regional and remote clinical settings. The introduction of this type of technology innovation assists in the preparation of student nurses/midwives for work integrated learning (WIL) as well as for their transition from student to graduate nurse.

The presentation will share insights into the development process, functionality and outcomes of the AEHR platform and highlight the importance of leveraging technology to enhance the student experience.
