Abstract

This project explored attachment constructs in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) whose families sought treatment for child behaviour and emotional problems. First, research exploring attachment in children with ASD was synthesised through a systematic review. Second, the relationship between child attachment quality and caregiving environment was explored. Third, associations between attachment quality and child behaviour and emotional problems were examined. Finally, the role of attachment in treating child behaviour and emotional problems was assessed. Together, this work advances our understanding of the attachment profile of children with ASD, including insight into how attachment may influence other areas of development.
