Abstract

[Extract] The Department of Social Services (DSS) commissioned a research team from the Social Policy Research Centre (SPRC) at UNSW Australia to undertake an independent evaluation of the Settlement Grants program (‘SG’ hereafter). SG is an Australian Government grant program which provides funding to organisations to assist new arrivals to settle in Australia. SG provides support for humanitarian entrants and other eligible migrants in their first five years of life in Australia, with a focus on fostering social and economic participation, personal wellbeing, independence and community connectedness. The evaluation was guided by six key questions relating to the program’s appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency, to assess whether it had achieved its intended outcomes.
