Abstract

Olga Masters (1919-1986) was an Australian journalist and short story writer whose intimate and detailed portraits of rural Australia have often been praised for their realism. "Sweet Traps" reevalutes the realism of Masters' writing, appraising instead the fantasies of domestic entrapment that are contained within her collection A Long Time Dying, and considering the role played by ideas about feminine victimhood in the postcolonial fantasies she pens.
