Abstract

Natasha Ryan investigated rufous bettong behaviour in northern Australian rangelands to determine the effect of cattle grazing on this native species. She quantified nesting and digging and found that moderate, sustainable grazing practices, and maintaining native shrubs best supported this species, which provides valuable ecosystem services via their digging.
