Abstract

Despite increasing research in the heritage tourism space, there is scant extant literature investigating heritage boutique hotels. This area is an important segment of cultural heritage tourism and worthy of exploring. This chapter seeks to identify the elements of sensory experience of heritage boutique hotels. Firstly, this study explores the literature for understanding of the ways in which multisensory experiences of travellers to heritage boutique hotels are researched. Then the research analyzes 296 guest reviews posted on the TripAdvisor website, which referred to travellers’ experiences of two heritage boutique hotels, one in Singapore and the other in Australia. Based on the findings, the visual component of multisensory experiences was the most prominent and sound was the least notable. The results support the importance of multisensory attributes in creating a memorable hotel experience.
