Abstract

This book critically analyses the development of public secondary school education in Queensland through the lens of Brisbane State High School at the time of its centenary. BSHS is the flagship public school. It taught the first blind student, guided students through the Great Depression and World War II and more recently COVID 19. It epitomises the need for public education and its leaders fought against those who tried to limit free access to quality education. Through so doing, BSHS has written the map for teaching generally and for dealing with crisis and novel situations particularly. INCLUSIVITY in education is at the school's heart regarding gender, religion, class, political etc. The Book studies the contributions of the school's graduates to Law, Business, Sports, Religion, The Arts etc - as those graduates are some of the State's leaders, and therefore influenced the development of Queensland. Recent educational developments eg ATAR are also critiqued. The foreward was written by two Supreme Court Judges who stated that as author, "Dr Floyd ...vindicates those who envisaged an educated Queensland."
