Abstract

[Extract] The relevant literature suggests that the rare New Guinea palm Orania regalis Zipp. and the genus Orania Zipp. were named in honor of William I, Prince of Orange and King of Netherlands. This paper proposes an alternative etymology of the names Orania and O. regalis.
