Abstract
This chapter discusses common design lessons learned from successful early games in the 8- and 16-bit generation and discusses if, and how, those principles can still be relevant today. In other words, can old games help us understand some "golden rules" of game design that can be applied successfully today within the domain of modern games, specifically within the indie, casual and mobile realms?
