Abstract
A study of early "white-washing" narratives and films relevant to Palm Island, and an account of the later Palm Island tradition of black writing. The article includes extended analyses of Thea Astley's novel, "The Multiple Effects of Rain Shadow", and of fiction by Palm Island descendant, Boori Pryor.
