Abstract

[Extract] This issue of ACH brings to an end the journal and my role as a scholarly editor. ACH was founded by Sam Goldberg and Barry Smith at the Australian National University in 1982. In the mid-1980s editorship transferred to David Walker at the University of New South Wales who subsequently moved to Deakin. I became involved in the late 1990s as co-editor before passing on the journal to Tim Dolin at Curtin.

In 2007, I produced my last issue of the Journal of Australian Studies, which I had edited for eleven years, before taking over ACH as sole editor. From the very start, ACH has been a wonderful journal which has published some of the leading scholars in the field.

It is a very sad decision to cease publication.

My role as a scholarly editor began in earnest at the University of London in the late 1980s but really took off when I assumed control of the Journal of Australian Studies in 1996 while at the University of Queensland. As part of a broader arrangement, I was commissioned by the University of Queensland Press to also edit two book series, Australian Studies and Symposia which, with the Journal of Australian Studies, formed the basis of the Australian Public Intellectual Network.
