Abstract
[Extract] In his wanderings through the "free and easy land" in the 1930s Frank Clune headed north in a train, Dirty Dora, who, true to her name belched soot and cinders, one of which burned a hole in his coat. Thirty-three miles out of Townsville Dora stopped at Rollingstone for her passengers to have a cup of tea and a pie. Knife-eating, Frank observed, was a lost art in the south but alive and well in the north and unavoidable "in a railway refreshment room in the limited time available to consume a pie"!
