Abstract
[Extract] Recent historiography on Aboriginal-settler relations shows a refreshing readiness to complicate the story and probe into the myriad forms those relations could take. The trend has a long way to go; too many studies still rely on a simplistic binary of all-powerful, malignant whites versus hapless blacks. But, whether as a result of the so-called “history wars” or as a sign that those “wars” are over, a trend toward more nuanced narratives is now in evidence.
