Abstract

The painting 'Twisted Air' was selected by the curator for the traveling exhibition 'Under the Monsoon'. This exhibition was pertinent to the depiction of the monsoon as a phenomenon and as a topic for interpretation by artists.

Research Statement

Research Background	The depiction and interpretation of the natural environment and before that the landscape of place have been significant topics and subjects for art and research, over centuries. This art work and exhibition contribute to that dialogue.
Research Contribution	The painting on canvas 'Twisted Air' belongs to a series about the Monsoon in north Australia. The investigation adds to that of many artists and poets influenced by such a global influence, though also a phenomenon of the Pacific. The monsoon and the climate are part of a larger picture and now an increasingly studied topic. This work contributes an interpretation of the climatic experience from subjective observation and reflection.
Research Significance	Little has been documented in relation to the subjective interpretation of climate, specifically the Monsoon and climate in Queensland. The visual artists' interpretation is vital in creating a broad appreciation of the region both as physical entity and interpreted climate.
