Abstract
The Twin Cities of Thuringowa and Townsville located in Tropical North Queensland have a noteworthy history of supporting Jazz musicians, and sustaining a diverse range of bands, clubs and organisations, as well as Jazz focused festivals and community events. This CD is a tribute to and acknowledgment of the talented players in this region.
Research Statement
| Research Background | Several well known Townsville jazz musicians, with considerable performing experience had not been in a recording studio. The initial outcome of role modelling to the younger musicians was mutually experienced by the mature players. Several of the younger musicians had previous recording experience and their own CDs. The outcome of professional development applied to both the older and the younger musicians. As a result of this project, the elder musicians with commitments to promoting and continuing jazz in Townsville, are now recorded on a CD. |

| Research Contribution | The project: Supported skills and professional development for all the musicians involved, in a partnership between the community and the Council; Involved a wide range of the community from 18 years to 60, with a range of professional skills and experience to share; Resulted in a high quality product to be used to increase the economic and professional opportunities of those artists, musicians and production team involved and used to expand jazz music in the region, promote local talent and develop community events. |
| Research Significance | The result is a quality CD that has raised the bar on production quality for musical products from the region. Skills development and professional development was achieved as only a few of the musicians had previously recorded. The process of musical recording can be intimidating and stressful, because every note played is documented for all to hear. The experience of spending time in the studio, with caring and supportive people, benefited all those musicians participating in the project. |
