Abstract

L’objectif de la mission était la récupération des trente géolocaliseurs GLS posés sur les puffins de la colonie de Temrock (Nouvelle-Calédonie) en fin de saison de reproduction 2013/2014, afin de déterminer leur destination en mer durant l’inter-saison. La majorité des terriers de la colonie montraient des traces de réactivation récente. Dix-sept oiseaux bagués (sur 53), de 15 terriers différents, ont été recapturés à proximité immédiate de ceux-ci. Huit de ces oiseaux portaient en outre un GLS, qui a été ré cupéré . Les analyses préliminaires des enregistrements de lumière révèlent une zone d’hivernage très étendue dans le Pacifique nord tropical, entre 145°E et 160°W. Nous envisageons de récupérer les GLS manquants au début de la saison de reproduction 2015/2016.

At-sea movements of wedge-tail shearwaters from Temrock (New Caledonia): mission report, 28 November – 08 December 2014. We aimed at determining the wintering area of the wedge-tailed shearwaters from the Temrock colony in New Caledonia. The specific objective of the mission was the recovery of thirty geo-localizers (GLS) which were fitted to reproductively active shearwaters at the end of 2013/2014 breeding season. A majority of burrows in the colony showed signs of recent reactivation. Seventeen banded birds (out of a total of 53), from 15 different burrows, were recaptured in the immediate vicinity of the latter. Eight of these birds wore GLS, which were recovered. Preliminary analysis of the light recordings revealed an extensive wintering area in the tropical North Pacific spanning the ocean between b145°E and 160°W . We plan to recover the missing GLS early in the 2015/2016 breeding season.
