Abstract

[Extract] Bob Brozman is an established and accomplished American guitarist specialising in the National steel guitar. A major focus of his recording career has been his playing and recording with artists from other nations. The second most recent release of Brozman’s in this vein, Songs of the Volcano, is his first CD of Papua New Guinean(PNG) music, recorded with five string bands from the Rabaul area (including the Duke of York Islands). The CD is supplied with a bonus full-length DVD documentary covering the making of the CD, filmed by Australian Phil Donnison. Both the CD and the DVD were made while Brozman was Adjunct Professor of Musicat Macquarie University in Sydney.
