Abstract
[Extract] Tok Pisin (pidgin) term for a conch horn of New Guinea; the Hiri Motu name is kibi. Once an appropriate shell is found and the animal inside removed, a hole is made for blowing. Charonta tritonis shells can be end- or side-blown; Cassis shells are only endblown. The instrument is commonly used for signalling or to accompany s inging in coastal areas, but is often replaced by wooden or bamboo trumpets further inland.
