Abstract
[Extract] As a long-time scholar of indigenous media, until quite recently it had never occurred to me to attempt my own film about Yolngu culture. In fact, I had established a career premised precisely on not doing that. But after more than fifteen years of working on Yolngu media projects as a producer and trainer - adhering as closely as possible to the 'black hands on camera' edict that accompanied the rise of remote Aboriginal media in Australia in the late 1980s and the 1990s - I found myself increasingly interested in responding 'in-kind' to image worlds I work within.
