Abstract

Many important giant-supergiant tin polymetallic deposits distribute in the western South China block. Based on the new data and the latest reported highly precise dating of the ores and related granites and new progress in the study of geodynamic process, we propose that the timing of the large-scale Mesozoic magma-mineralization of western South China region mainly concentrated in Late Cretaceous (76-98Ma). Though a series of similar characters, such as lithosphere extensional environment, can be discovered in the eastern- and western-part of South China block, obvious differences also exist in these two regions ; moreover, the eastern part shows a more complicate character. In Late Cretaceous, the western part mainly controlled by intraplate magmatism and mineralization, however, except for this aspect, the eastern part also influenced by the changing of moving direction of the subducted Izanagi plate.
