Abstract

[Extract] Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen: It is a great honor and privilege for me to introduce Noel White for the 2013 SEG Penrose Gold Medal. Noel White is a passionate geologist, sharp thinker, and great educator. He is special in that he has had a career marked by rich experience, deep insight, and great accomplishments in exploration, as well as in research and education. Noel has been a dedicated explorationist for almost 50 years. His early and middle career was entirely spent with BHP, eventually in the position of Chief Geologist for BHP Minerals Exploration, guiding the activities for one of the largest mineral companies in the world. During those years, Noel guided numerous project generation and exploration efforts throughout the world. After BHP, he has served as the director for several smaller companies, and has provided advice on conducting comprehensive exploration programs to companies and governments globally.
