Abstract

An increasing emphasis is being placed on New Zealand principals and curriculum leaders to implement strategies for school and curriculum self-evaluation and improvement. This paper investigates the phenomenon of science curriculum delivery evaluation at a rural primary school in New Zealand. The evaluation process describes a principal's journey in using a validated evaluation instrument to understand the factors influencing science program delivery at the classroom and school level. On the basis of the data obtained from the application of the instrument and ensuing staff discussion and reflection, focused strategies for curriculum development are discussed.
