Abstract

A short video production introducing The Cairns Institute through the perspective of the building and its construction. The video is a montage of scenes depicting the internal and external spaces associated with the building and its surrounds. The key people involved with the design and construction were interviewed by the documentary makers and short sections of their responses are mixed into the production as commentary. The video production records a moment in time as The Cairns Institute building is completed and begins to be occupied by the research and professional staff associated with the Institute.

Research Contribution	The video production demonstrates the role of collaboration between disciplines and the specific role of media arts in providing alternatives platforms for the communication of ideas and processes. Staff of The Cairns Institute worked closely with academics and students from the School of Creative Arts to undertake the pre and post production of the work.
Research Significance	The video has been used by The Cairns Institute and James Cook University as a feature of the opening ceremonies and events associated with the launch of activities at The Cairns Institute. The project documents a moment in time as The Cairns Institute building is completed and begins to be occupied by the research and professional staff associated with the Institute.
