The aim is to explore leadership in Thailand at the 'macro' level, by investigating context, issues and barriers to leadership within the rich contextual dynamic of Thailand. While previous leadership studies have been dominated by research conducted in non-Asian contexts, the present study demonstrates the importance of taking the influence of country specific context, issues and barriers into account when exploring leadership within a country context. The purpose is to identify determinates of 'Thai' leadership that could point to the development of a leadership framework to enable Thai leaders and their followers to better understand the changing context of leadership in Thailand. Further studies are necessary to test the determinants across industry and organisational contexts throughout Thailand. Many leadership studies focus on the 'meso/micro' level while overlooking the importance and contribution of context, issues and barriers to leadership, particularly within country specific contexts. This study engages that need.
