International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia In this era of globalisation, national bodies and funding organizations have invited for a transformed focus aligned to outcome based research in the community. There are various factors such as professionals’ level of knowledge, the significance of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches, and the necessity to convert the findings of research according to the changes in practice and policy of the community setup are involved in the recent transformation. The results of such outcome based research may distinguish the significance of community, radical and cost-effective systems to health behaviours and outcomes. To guarantee that quality care is given carefully, the healthcare systems should try to achieve various aspects which include refining the proper use of medicines, improving satisfactory outcomes for patients, and increasing the cost-effectiveness and cost-efficacy of community health care. Categorizing the research areas for evaluation of outcomes by standard procedures such as drug utilization review, or following up the unwanted drug reaction tendencies, pharmacists are in a critical position to classify areas to be evaluated. Community pharmacists are significant contributors in leading the outcome based community research by involving in a critical evaluation of the research methods, boundaries, possible bias, and the rationality of the research. The executive resolutions on top level national bodies are necessary to implement the policies to achieve the relevant outcomes research in the community. Since the outcomes research are emerging in low income developing countries, community pharmacists need to work among the other health professionals to design and implement programs and policies.
