Abstract

Ryan Simmons explored the acute physiological, perceptual and neuromuscular responses of elite male rugby league athletes to the preseason and early competition phases of the NRL season. He discovered that athletes build a tolerance to high training loads which has a protective effect at the commencement of the competition season.
