Abstract

[Extract] When Queensland celebrated its centenary in 1959, Princess Alexandraof Kent visited Australia and spent three weeks touring Queensland as therepresentative of the Queen. The Princess’s tour of towns and cities wasdesigned by Queensland officials to be the highlight of the state’s centenarycelebrations. Subsequently, in May 1960, the South Brisbane Hospital wasrenamed the Princess Alexandra Hospital, an enduring memorial to herQueensland tour.
