Abstract
Chapter Summary This chapter seeks to conceptualize and advance the relationship between SA and Research, especially in research design and methodologies in health-related fields. The chapter presents two case studies wherein researchers have sought to embed the values and principles of SA within their research activities, designs, methodologies, and objectives. These case studies include the program model and theory of change of the Training for Health Equity Network (THEnet; exemplifying research on SA across institutions) and the unique approach and theory of change of the Nourishing Health Education Coalition (exemplifying socially accountable research across a region). The chapter then ends with an emerging conceptual framework for Socially Accountable Research that we hope will support researchers, research networks, and institutions to better describe how research is critical for advancing social accountability.
